Niesen Stairway

The Niesen Staircase is the longest staircase in the world (11,674 steps!).

Climbing the stairs is prohibited.

The exceptions:

Stair subscription (“Stäge-Abo”)
Stair rental for group events
Participation in official stair training

Stair subscription (“Stäge-Abo”)

For runners who want to use the stairs several times during the season, we recommend the stairs subscription (“Stäge-Abo”).

Price: CHF 490, the subscription can be purchased at the ticket office in Mülenen.

Procedure

You must register before the start at the valley station (enter your name in the list)
“Releasing the staircase” between 07.10 and 07.20: 079 529 65 72

Included in the Stäge-Abo:

Permission to use the stairs (03.00 – 07.00 h)
Free shower and descent
Valid as a season ticket (return trips even if the stairs are not used)
Guaranteed starting place (against payment) at the official Niesen Stair Run – please notify info@niesen.ch if you register for the prize draw.

Stair rental

For trained groups (not individuals).

Would you like to climb the longest staircase in the world exclusively with your sports club, your circle of friends or another (trained!) group (from approx. 10 people) (as the SC Bern 1st team did, for example – click here for the Instagram video)? Then “rent” the Niesen Stairs for yourself.

Official stair training

On selected and beautiful evenings without normal evening rides, the Niesenbahn offers training on the stairs.

Price CHF 49.-

The price includes luggage transport (please note the last drop-off time!), training on the longest staircase in the world and the extra descent.

Possible dates will be announced on this page. No training sessions are planned at the moment (depending on the weather).

Important information – official stair training sessions

Season tickets, other reductions or promotions are not valid on these evenings.
Tickets for the training can only be purchased online.
Only runners with a ticket are allowed on the stairs.
There is no timekeeping.
There is only one shower available at the top station. We recommend that you bring a change of warm clothes and shower at home.
Prepare yourself for the stair training with the appropriate physical preparation.
The cable car runs exclusively for participants in the Niesen Stairs training.

ATTENTION: It is forbidden to climb stairs without permission

The staircase along the Niesenbahn is a service staircase for maintenance and a rescue staircase for emergencies. The stairs are part of the infrastructure of NIESENBAHN AG and are the property of the railroad company.

For safety reasons and to protect the infrastructure, access to the stairs is prohibited at all times (365 days a year, 24 hours a day). In the event of an infringement, personal details will be recorded and CHF 59 will be collected.
